The Grid Integration Action Group is targeted at people involved in technical issues of grid integration of wind energy and at people who would like to know more about these issues.
The aim of the Grid Integration Action Group is
· Firstly, to share information and knowledge among interested stakeholders.
· Secondly, to gain a better understanding of the needs and interests of different role-players such as grid experts, project developers and government officials; information resulting from these discussions should be integrated into the project activities and into other relevant processes at the national and provincial level (e.g. new governmental draft policies, Eskom grid planning, etc.).
· Finally, input into the elaboration and the follow-up process of the Grid Study currently conducted by DIgSILENT and Eskom is required, possibly leading into the elaboration of further studies.
In order to facilitate the achievement of these aims, this platform provides the following features:
A Download Area provides draft documents of ongoing project activities, official documents falling in the realm of grid integration of wind energy as well as papers providing state of the art knowledge on grid integration issues. All of these documents could form the basis for inputs in the Discussion Forum.
The Discussion Forum is split into three sections. The first one provides participants with the opportunity to give input into ongoing project activities. The second sub-forum is reserved for comments on policies or other official initiatives; these comments could form the basis for joint submissions to the entity responsible for the respective initiative. Finally, a section has been created for further information exchange and discussions; ideas for possible topics can be obtained from the minutes of the grid integration forum of the Project Implementation Workshop (see folder “Project Documents” in Downloads). Further interesting topics to be discussed in the forum include the following:
· Barriers to wind energy development from a grid point of view and possible solutions
· Suggestions of how to link wind energy issues with Eskom grid planning
· Requirements for pro-active grid planning
Every registered user is able to add comments in the Discussion Forum and download documents from the Download Area. Should you wish to upload a document or add information to the Events and News sections, please contact the administrator Birgit Moiloa at
