Welcome to the Western Cape Wind Action Groups

The Western Cape Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning (D:EA&DP) together with the TERNA Wind Energy Programme of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) and Eskom have signed a co-operation agreement with the following objectives:

  1. To support the creation of a supportive regulatory framework by developing a Regional Regulatory Action Plan (RRAP);
  2. To conduct a grid-study to determine the technical requirements for connecting wind farms to the distribution and transmission grid in the Western Cape.
  3. To build regional capacity through workshops and technical training courses; and
  4. To initiate the development of a Renewable Energy Cluster in the Western Cape, consisting of thematically differentiated Regional Action Groups.

At the Project Implementation Workshop on 14th May 2009, three Action Groups were launched, namely the Regulatory Action Group, the Grid Integration Action Group and the Project Development Action Group.

The overall aim of the Action Groups is to organize the interests of the different stakeholders, thereby helping to promote renewable energy (and in particular wind energy) at different levels of government and society.

Stakeholders are invited to join the Renewable Energy Cluster, thereby having the chance to give input into ongoing project activities (Regional Regulatory Action Plan, Grid Study, etc.), share information and discuss issues relevant to each Action Group.

In order to facilitate information exchange, this internet platform has been established, which features - amongst others - a Download Area and a Discussion Forum for each Action Group. Besides other relevant information, draft documents of the various project activities will be uploaded onto the page of the relevant Action Group for commenting purposes, whereas final documents and general newsletters will be made available on this starting page.

In order to take part, please choose an Action Group in the task list above and register for it (via the "plus"-button next to the login fields).

Should you wish to register for more than one group, you can do so by using the same username and password for a separate group.
